Do not overlook boiler protection policies

A number of protection policies are available in the market today, there is a policy for your holiday and even for your television cover!. Some are more essential than others, and some are even compulsory, as is the case with car insurance. If someone has a mortgage from a bank, the lender will require the borrower to take out buildings insurance. Cover like this is vital in assuring that the policy holder is secure and won’t face any devastating quandaries.

The next step down would be things like heating system insurance, which can be found with companies such as British Gas and Hometeam (npower). The heating system in your house is an expensive component that sometimes suffers costly failures – yet homeowners do not take gas central heating insurance as seriously as they should. The other problem is that actually getting someone to repair it can take time, and living without hot water or heating is no fun, especially in winter. But the most serious implication is the possibility of a faulty central heating system, which could be leaking potentially fatal carbon monoxide.

In the market there are a wide range of central heating, central heating system and household maintenance plans. Basic plans will cover annual servicing, safety checks and other minimum requirements. In such a plan, the cost of repair and spare parts is separately billed, some of the better quality plans include this enhanced cover. But if someone wants to take out one of these plans, barring the fact that their boiler is still under warranty, only has to add a little amount on the monthly payment to include coverage for maintenance and spare parts within their policy. This extra money each month is well spent when a heating boiler is getting close to the end of its working life. Although a customer may just want their central heating boiler covered, it might be prudent to have the rest of the system (radiators, heating controls, central heating pump and so on) covered too.

One thing to watch out for when choosing a policy is any exemptions or limits written into the insurance policy document. The number of call outs per year or maximum cost of inclusive repairs for a given period are limited by some providers. Central heating insurance is like all other types in that you shouldn’t just go for the cheapest deal and always consider whether it has sufficient cover.
