Different types of Gas Central Heating Systems are available in the market. Most of them consist of a set of heating radiators, a gas boiler and copper pipework.
In most parts of the United Kingdom air conditioning is hardly required because of the average temperatures of those regions. Many of us find proper heating a necessity; as a result most of the new houses being constructed today are built with a Gas Central Heating System.
As autumn fades and chilly winds begin to blow, householders turn to their Gas Central Heating for warmth and comfort. A heated home has a comfortable and enjoyable feel to it. Your Central Heating System must be fault free as much as possible and efficient to cut bills. A good heating system should inspire confidence, give value for money and be simple to operate.
There are two main types of Central Heating Systems; pumped/vented and sealed systems.
Pumped/vented systems are the ones that many homes have and they have the most components resulting in potentially higher maintenance costs. A pumped/vented Gas Central Heating System has a feed and expansion tank. The hot water storage tank provides your home with warm water and brings heat to the heating radiators. Any water expansion that may occur due to heating is handled by the expansion tank. You will most likely find the expansion tank kept in the highest part of the house. The hot water tank has two main functions; to heat the house and and provide hot water for washing.
A lot of older homes have pumped/vented Gas Central Heating systems.
The sealed Central Heating system is one that more and more people are opting for these days. No water tanks are needed with the sealed system. There are benefits to have this closed type of system with pipework and tanks being unnecessary.
- There is no risk of pipes freezing in the attic as with older systems.
- No maintenance or repair work is required for the pipes and tank which would have been in the attic.
- Because the system is not vented, there is less chance of water leaking out.
- The air cannot enter the system as its sealed and hence there are lesser chances of sludge, corrosion and airlocks developing.
- If necessary, the system can be flushed out under pressure using the main water supply.
The sealed Gas Central Heating system is a fully packaged system with all the controls and safety devices already in place. The sealed system gets its water through the main water supply at pressure. The main water supply feeds the system immediately under pressure.
Pressure variation can be regulated by a pressure vessel holding compressed gas; the hot water is pressurized by a diaphragm which also separates the water from the compressed gas. Pressure buildup in a Sealed system can be relieved by a safety valve which drains out water; and pressure drop is compensated by automatic fresh intake of water via another valve.
As compared to other heating systems, Gas Central Heating systems are cheaper to run. They offer you a lot more control of your home environment than the other heating systems.
